What is the difference between pressed powder and loose powder..?

and do u have to wear it if all u wear is mineral foundation? What is the difference between pressed powder and loose powder..?
Pressed powder is a cake of face powder pressed into a mirrored compact with a puff or sponge. It usually has a matte finish on the skin, and is portable and convenient for touch-ups during the day if you have oily skin that needs blotting.

Loose powder has a consistency more like baby powder - soft, fine, and, well, loose. Most brands are packaged in a tin, plastic box, or shaker container with a screen over the powder so you can shake out a little at a time through the small holes in the screen. Unless you have a container that stays tightly closed, loose powder is not very portable. There is a benefit of loose over pressed, though - loose powder is softer and more natural looking on the skin. You can apply it with a powder brush or a puff depending on the finish you want.

Both pressed and loose powders typically come in a variety of skin tone shades from light beige to deep cocoa. There are also translucent or colorless powders that are designed to work on any skin color. If you always use your powder over foundation or concealer, a translucent powder will set the makeup without adding any extra color.

Face powder in skintone colors are great if you want to wear only powder with no other foundation, or if your foundation color needs some adjusting. For example, if your foundation is too pink, you can layer a yellow-based powder over it to make the overall color more neutral. Some brands also make green and violet powders that are supposed to counteract too much red in the skin (you'd use green powder) or too sallow (you'd use violet). Personally I think these are gimmicky and never look as good on the skin as they sound in theory. I recommend sticking to translucent or natural skintone shades. What is the difference between pressed powder and loose powder..?
pressed powder is like packed and can break, you wipe it on or brush it on.

loose powder is just colored powder put in a box tht you puff on.

you can wear whatever you want
pressed powder comes in that little compact thing and its usually used to put on your nose and forehead if its shiny. Loose powder is used like as a base.

How to apply loose eye shadow powder, so that it stays all night..?

I have some bright blue eyeshadow powder that is just loos in the container, i can apply it ok but within hal an hour it is all around my eyes and rubbed off. I have tried vaseline before but it doenst work..How to apply loose eye shadow powder, so that it stays all night..?
First apply foundation to your eyelids and then translucent or pressed powder. Then put your brush into the shadow, tap off any excess before applying and you should be okay. How to apply loose eye shadow powder, so that it stays all night..?
u can use a liquid base just apply it all over ur lid
you can try water maybe? or sorry but if you want to go to a party again wearing the eyeshadow, benefit has this stuff called shelaq. it makes ANY make-up waterproof. I used it when I went swimming and it stayed on.
I found a great eye shadow primer from Urban Decay called Magic Potion. It's excellent and keeps eye shadow on until you want it to come off.
put all ur makeup on

EXCEPT mascara

and lightly spray ur face with hairspray

not too much or it will feel icky

then put on mascara in 5 mins later

and ur makeup will stay pretty much all night

dont do this trick too much or it will block ur pores up

Should pressed or loose powder be used to set liquid foundation?

pressed powder is generally preferable for touch ups because it is easier to handle and less messy. it is usually made as a powdered form of foundation unless otherwise noted. therefore if you already have liquid on, you already have enough coverage so its best to set with loose powder because it can be applied more lightly like a veil. ifyu use pressed powder you'll basically be usimg two layers of foundation which, one, is completely unecessary and unhealthy for your skin, and two, will most likely look really cakey.Should pressed or loose powder be used to set liquid foundation?
you can if you want to.Should pressed or loose powder be used to set liquid foundation?
press powder looks more natural if you have oily skin use liquid foundation then powder to keep the oily look away for the day
I use pressed, I think you can use either really.
u should use loose powder to set liquid foundation.

although.... if ur skin is good looking, u can get by with just pressed powder

  • Is mascara and loose powder allowed on airplane?

    hahahahahahaha yeah

a certain amount of sun cream isn't though. Is mascara and loose powder allowed on airplane?
its not what it is its how much. So just check on your ticket information, (it tells you the quantity of liquids you are allowed in your carry on) and place only that amount into a separate clear plastic bag (sandwich bag or something) and leave in your carry on bag. have fun where ever you are goingIs mascara and loose powder allowed on airplane?
yes as long as u have them in a plastic bag if they are in your carry on. i brought so so much with me on my last holiday the man looked at me funny then another asked if he could randomly test some of my make up so dont be shocked if they ask that he just played with my mascara and lip gloss then gave it back!

    hope this helps :)
yes it is , once they didnt even check what i had they just said go and other people too i guess cuz we looked very decent. I was wearing a jean jacket and jeans and a orange V-neck. Some brown boots. Oh well, and other time they checked but they didnt say anything
Yes but I would put each product in a seperate plastic bag just in case and I wouldn't take your most expensive stuff on the plane, keep that in your suitcase, just in case they confiscate it for some reason.

What happens if u mix loose powder into some cream?

would it make a foundation? What happens if u mix loose powder into some cream?
If by ';cream'; you mean your daily moisturizer, then thats fine, it will make a tinted moisturizer, which is a sheer foundaton.

Alot of people do this...and dont get acne. What happens if u mix loose powder into some cream?
no i tries that i goes into a big clogged mess because the powder don't mix properly with the cream when you use it it clogs your skin up at makes you have really bad acne
Im not sure it prob will but it wouldn't work properly.
Sure, but it might clog your pores.

Which is the best mineral loose powder in the market?

I mean drug store brands, not high brands such as Estee Lauder etc Which is the best mineral loose powder in the market?
I think that new mineral powder by Maybelline is VERY good my mom tried it and she loved it.

Is trueblend loose powder any good. And how would i use it?

I use Cover Girl True blend foundation (the one that you pump thing no the little jar one) They now have those jar with loose powder, they also have them for blush and bronzer are they any good. I probably will only use the loose powder since i already like the bronzer i use. so how do i use it. Do it put the bronzer on after hte loose powder. or should i not even use loose powder and just do foundation then bronzer???Is trueblend loose powder any good. And how would i use it?
i purchased some true blend powder 2 weeks ago, and it does not work no where near as good as you see on the commercials. if you don't match your skin color exactly, it will make your skin look discolored. i would suggest not buying, unless they have your perfect color. and yes you put the bronzer on top of the powder. Is trueblend loose powder any good. And how would i use it?
finish ur face make up base and in end apply loose powder with big brush...

Does Anyone Find That Breaking Up Pressed Power So That It Is Loose Powder Makes It Last Longer?

yes it adds air making it lighter and lets you use less.. also lets less get blown away or dropped when using the product.. better for your skin too..Does Anyone Find That Breaking Up Pressed Power So That It Is Loose Powder Makes It Last Longer?
Hmm that's a good idea;D but actually I don't think so. Loose powder gets wasted so easily cause you tap so much off the brush. At least for me. Using pressed powder, especially if you use your fingers, you only get exactly how much you need.

    :]

Although I like loose better haha.Does Anyone Find That Breaking Up Pressed Power So That It Is Loose Powder Makes It Last Longer?
I find it lasts NOT as long because it spills out every time the compact is open.
    nope haha

    but good preservation. :]
i find that bare minerals lasts me a long time and its loose powder, so why not

Whats the best drugstore concealer for dark circles, loose powder, and waterproof mascara?

Physician's Formula has the best concealer, it's yellow ao it balances out dark circles. you pat under your eyes and then pat your foundation or powder over it. Costs about $7.00. They also make powder and mascara too! In my opinion it is the best drug store brand.Whats the best drugstore concealer for dark circles, loose powder, and waterproof mascara?
You are aking for a ';best'; product and you are saying drugstore. • The difference between loose and pressed powder?

Whats the difference between the two? WHat are the pro and cons of both? Which do you recommend? Is loose powder suitable to use over tinted moisturiser? The difference between loose and pressed powder?
Well Loose powder works best and last longest. Also it contains more oil absorbers than pressed. But if you travel pressed powder is more convenient to take along with you. With loose powder the finer its milled the higher the quality , therefore its less likely it is to cake on the skin. The difference between loose and pressed powder?
Pressed powder is usually in a compact case %26amp; is pressed so it is solid %26amp; compacted together. Loose powder is in a circle canister %26amp; it is loose so it has more of a powder texture. I use pressed powder because I can carry it in my purse.. Pressed powder is better for oily skin %26amp; and to get rid of shine %26amp; loose powder is better for thick coverage. Here is an example of pressed %26amp; loose powder. Learn more about it by going to this site! I hope this helps :)
loose and pressed are just what it is written. pressed is solid poweder while loose is loose.. like its not a wholesolid liek pressed, its like sand in summer.

in my experience, i found that loose is easier to apply if you have problem skin. meanin acne and what not. also, loose applies easily on the skin with a brush while powdered, you have to kinda press it on the skin a bit as if you are putting liquid foundation on.

i would think you would need to use loose powder but then again, they are very similiar so it really depends on the person.

    good luck
well loose powder is better then liquid because liquid covers up all your pores and stuff
Loose powder absorbs more oil. It is easier to spread around due to the puffy brushes commonly used with loose. Its also much cleaner to use a loose than a pressed (rubbing your face oils into the product daily.. with sponge with pressed)

The only negative with loose is its hard to transport.

I recomend using loose, and have a pressed just for tuch ups.
I hate powder, I find it makes my skin look cakey. I use Diorskin Airflash spray foundation, and then I use a little bit of concealer to cover up and blemishes, and then I apply a light dusting of bronzer with a brush all over my face, it makes it look wonderful and flawless!

HOWEVER, if you do use powder, I would go with loose. Pressed powder is hard and you sort of wipe it on a sponge, and then smear it all over your face. It looks cakey and gross on most people. I reccomend using loose powder, and just sweeping some on a powder brush and lightly dusting it over your face. It won't look cakey. And yes, loose powder is suitable over tinted moisturizer.
    okay so:

Pressed face powder-a powder for on the go. used for quick touch ups an blotting shine throughout the day. can be a lil heavier depending on how u apply and how much u apply.

Loose face powder-a powder for in the morning after you foundation and/or concealer. its a powder that stays at home. its a lighter more airy and less heavy powder than pressed. it gives you a light feel rather than a caked on feel.

result 4 loose powder=light, natural, well blended look

result 4 pressed powder used in morning=heavier, more coverage, possibly slightly cakey. if u stay with pressed powder i suggest u use a powder brush to blend it or to apply it.

result 4 pressed powder on-the-go=blots shine, keeps skin matte

For in the morning after your foundation and/or concealer i think you'll get a better result if u use the loose powder and keep a pressed powder for on the go. and loose powder is fine with tinted moisturizer. good luck!!

MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder OR Select Sheer Loose Powder?

Whats the difference between the two..? Thier both the same price. Which do you prefer?MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder OR Select Sheer Loose Powder?
The only true difference is that one is in loose form while the other is pressed. I personally prefer the pressed one because I had the loose and it got all over the place sometimes. The pressed is more convenient for me because I can carry it in my purse if I needed to.MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder OR Select Sheer Loose Powder?

How do i apply shimmer loose powder?

my sister gave it to me on a whim and didn't ask the saleslady how to use it.i've never used the stuff before and i really don't know where in my face i should apply it.How do i apply shimmer loose powder?
Well if it's a glow type powder, use it along your upper cheekbones and maybe a little on your chin and forehead.

If it's a glitter/shimmer type powder, I'd use it on my eyes, and chest and arms.

What is the difference between loose powder and compact powder?

compact powder covers everything and smoothes everything and makes u all pretty. them u dust on loose powder with a fluffy brush/blush brush to set everything in. my faves r:

clinique perfectly real compact makeup and

    clinique blended face powder

hope i helped :]What is the difference between loose powder and compact powder?
I like the compact powders just because there is less mess... (in my makeup bag.. somehow if I have loose powder it just get everywhere in there....lol) also to me it seems like loose powder goes on too heavy...the compact gives a more nartural lookWhat is the difference between loose powder and compact powder?
Loose is very powdery and everywhere, like baby powder. It's used more freely and has less precison than compact powder. It usually has a sifter to it. Compact is in a little metal pan in a plastic case. It's applied with a sponge and is heavier. Unlike loose powder, you can use it during red lights or as touch ups in the bathroom without making a mess.
Loose powder absorbs more oil compared to compact powder. Compact powder is more convenient.
    idk
loose powder can be applied more liberously since you use either a poof or a blush brush its much lighter but covers just as well, i love the mineral loose powders. compact powders are heavier

Loose powder sits on top of skin?

I don't use much make-up, just eyeliner and mascara for my eyes, then concealer. After I'm done with that, I use a little loose powder all over my face. But, it just seems to sit on top of my skin rather than blending; especially on my forehead and under my eyes (dark circles). Why is this? What can I do?Loose powder sits on top of skin?
If it's really noticeable, you might have the wrong shade of powder. If it matches your skin really well, you won't really see it much even if it is sitting on top of your skin. Since it is powder, it usually doesn't actually blend into your skin like a liquid makeup can. Just use a light dusting of it to take the shine off your skin, and give your skin an even tone ~ but don't expect it to cover up blemishes or dark circles. I do like wearing powder without foundation because I think it looks a lot fresher and more natural than foundation plus powder. Hope this helped!Loose powder sits on top of skin?
powder can be chalky it is meant to used ontop of foundation. also u put ur powder on first before you put on anything else, u might be using the wrong shade and not applying it right.
Do you use a brush or a puff? To me, brushes leave a more natural, less cakey finish then the puffs do. Have you tried a different brand of powder? Or try blotting the non-absorbent powder using another brush/tissue/sponge?

How do you put loose powder on without seeing it.?

When i put loose powder on my face, it like makes your facial hair really noticable, any products that you would seriously recommend. How do you put loose powder on without seeing it.?
First if you are going to use loose powder(which is the best) get the translucent, one with no color, just get the translucent loose powder I find that CG is one of the best I have used actually the brand doesn't even matter. Anyways the way to apply the powder can be either with a big powder brush or with the sponge that comes with it. Now they also sale another sponge that at the time can't think of the name of it but its a big round puff you will find it where the make up sponges are at store. This is what works best all you do is apply some powder on that and press it against your face like padding as if to blending make up. Make sure that when you are applying the powder you have something around neck or chest, since its loose powder you don't want to mess up you clothes, more if its the first time you use it. good luck =0)How do you put loose powder on without seeing it.?
use a large brush that is well made. swirl it around as if ur buffing your face. you use too much,. its very noticeable. so you may be using too much powder in the wrong places. but, if your like me where no matter the amount and no matter the product, it shows a tiny bit because of the hairs. use a mist to set your foundation. they can be found at most makeup supply stores like sephora or ulta. i find that it helps the foundation sink onto the skin rather than keeping it trapped all in the fine baby hairs. usually no one can tell i wear foundation and they all just assume my skin is naturally flawless and super clear with this trick when i wear powder. oh yes do tap excess off before applying and getting it into the brush helps. i just do a two in one tap to get both achieved by facing the brush end up and slanting it about 30 degrees.
make sure it is your color and matches, then put it on with a huge blush brush!
tap the brush to remove excess a little goes a long way
i use supper blendable true match bye lorel it woorks great

  • Is it okay to Wear Both Liquid foundation n Loose Powder??!!?

Is it okay to wear liquid foundation and then finish it off by brushing on some loose/mineral powder?? Or do you think that's too much?? Like my daily makeup routine is cleanse face, put on moisturizer n then dabs of liquid foundation where it's needed n finish it off by loose powder? Is it okay to Wear Both Liquid foundation n Loose Powder??!!?
that's fine as long as it's not all over your face and doesn't look cakey! Use the foundation in areas only where it's needed, and the powder just in areas with higer degrees of oil (eg. T section). I would also suggest that if you're using both, to use oil free products, because they look more natural, are better for your skin, and don't end up looking pancake like.Is it okay to Wear Both Liquid foundation n Loose Powder??!!?
    No, that's good.

The powder will also set your foundation, it makes it last longer. And it looks more natural to me than just liquid foundation.

    Your doing great (:
Like everyone else has said, sounds like your routine is perfect. As long as you don't use tons of liquid foundation, (it can make lines show up on your jawline) and tons of powder, (which can make you look cakey) you should look pretty natural. Liquid foundation can clog your pores though. My favorite makeup is Bare Minerals powder, because it's a powder that covers like a liquid and NEVER looks fake. Everyone has their favorites though! :)
Yea, its ok but dont pile it on or youll look like your wearing a mask.
I do. I don't like the cream to powders that are supose to be 2 in one they are greasy. Just use loose not pressed powder. And only use a little dab of foundation should cover your entire face.
yea i do it all the time. =]
sounds ok for me cuz liquid foundation will give u a bit shine when u wear it for a few hrs especially if u have oily face, so some loose powder or compress powder will take the shine away u know for a touch up. As long as u dont wear too much of both or eles u'll be looking like ur face is cakey =)
YOU SHOULD! I'm a make-up artist and we always top foundation with a nice dusting of loose powder. Even for minimal coverage products. Or you can use concealer and/or tinted moisturizer, SKIP the foundation and then apply the loose powder for an airy finish without the expense of airbrush make-up. Give it a try sometime!
    sounds perfect
Any pro makeup artist finishes the make up routine with loose powder, it sets the make up. If you want a luminous look, go for a loose powder that has some sheen. Revlon makes an inexpensive one. It will make you look more natural, but still cover any flaws.
That's what your supposed to do so that you don't look like a shiny plastic toy.
i'm sure it won't do any serious damage. but it could clog your pores more and maybe give you the look where it looks like your make up is caked on

Looking for a good loose face powder, not too heavy please?

I used Meryl Norman in the past but cant find a store near me.Looking for a good loose face powder, not too heavy please?
Bare Essentials from Ulta. LOVE this stuff. I never used to wear makeup until I found this. Now I wear it all the time. It looks so natural and doesn't make me break out. It is very light and you can apply it as heavy as you like.Looking for a good loose face powder, not too heavy please?
try mineral powders you can barely feel them!! you can buy them just about anywhere now and they vary in prices(depends on the brand)
Hii! I use Maybelline Mineral Powder!

    it's thin, but covers well and blends in with almost all skin tones! :}

Do I use pressed or loose powder to set concealer?

What's the best drugstore and high end brand. When do I apply the powder right after I put the concealer on or 5 minutes later etc. THANKS :)

oh my goodness I've asked SOOO many makeup questions today if you can help me with those too it'd be great but if not-okay :)Do I use pressed or loose powder to set concealer?
I love Rimmel London's Stay Matte pressed powder. I guess I like pressed powders best because I just find them less messy. With a loose powder I find I have powder all over my bathroom counter, haha.

Yes, you apply it right after you put on your concealer/foundation.

I don't know about the high end, I like Rimmel too much, haha. I use their translucent powder so I don't have to worry about it matching my skin tone.Do I use pressed or loose powder to set concealer?
Either works fine, it's just your preference for how you like to apply it. Loose powder just doesn't give as much coverage. And it really doesn't matter how long after you put concealer on to put powder on. Just make sure you've completely blended the concealer on your skin before putting on powder. Personally, i think Physicians Formula is the best brand- its the best for your skin- minerals, no talc. Its in drugstores.
Drugstore powder? Rimmel London's Stay Matte. It's really smooth and I believe they have a translucent shade that compliments most every skin tone.

High end powder? I would say Bare Mineral's Mineral Veil. For the price and the quality, it's a fantastic product.

You can apply powder over concealer immediately after if you so choose. There's no real time limit on when you should do something like that. Honestly, I have no problem putting foundation over concealer and doing that before I set my whole face with powder, so it doesn't really matter, as long as you do it.
I've used both loose and pressed for undereye concealer and I don't see a difference. Right now I've got a huge tub of Clinique loose powder and that thing has lasted a loooonnnnnnnng time.

It's more expensive than a drugstore brand, but you can find your exact skin tone match and it'll last you really long too, especially if it's only to set concealer. Good luck!!
You apply the powder right after the concealer. It doesn't matter whether it's loose or pressed powder, they're the same thing, just in different forms. I'm honestly not all that picky about my translucent powder. You can try maybe N.Y.C. for a lower end/drugstore brand and maybe Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil for something a little more high end. Good luck!

Can I use Johnson's baby powder instead of loose or pressed powder over my make up?

Will it do the same thing? Will it make a difference which one I use?Can I use Johnson's baby powder instead of loose or pressed powder over my make up?
ummm it will make you white. The powder has to match your skin tone. Can I use Johnson's baby powder instead of loose or pressed powder over my make up?
Yes. If you're naturally pale, then baby powder (talc) works well as face powder. Talc is the main ingredient of most face powders anyway, so if they irritate you or dry your skin too much, baby powder will do the same.

Most face powders are too dark for my skin, so I use talc. It doesn't look caked on or fake, but it does dry skin out, so I'd recommend a good moisturizer first and not using it everyday.
it might make you look a little pale :/

and i think its alot finer than loose or pressed powder so it may just sort of come away really easily.

the smell would also annoy me a bit to be honest :)
you face would look cakey, like a vampire or goth.
if your pale as paper hope i helped:)

What are the diffirences between loose powder and compact powder ?

which one is better for weddings and special occasionsWhat are the diffirences between loose powder and compact powder ?
    loose powder is loose....

compact powder is compressed usually into a compact.

for special occasions you should do your foundation wet then set it with either compact or loose, whichever you prefer. i prefer loose it is more blendable. What are the diffirences between loose powder and compact powder ?
Loose powder is great for oily skin and to set make up. For special occasions I'd recommend loose powder for blotting or touch ups and to set liquid foundation. If your going to be having photographs taken just be sure to skip foundations and powders that have an SPF in them. Sunscreen doesn't photograph well, it often leaves skin looking uneven and much lighter than the natural color. Compact powder is compressed and usually includes some kind of setting agent (which keeps it together in a compact) and often these agents or chemicals can irritate sensitive skin. I prefer loose powder on clients because you get a more even coverage and don't run the risk of irritation.

Just be sure to have a nice fluffy brush for all over coverage.

You can also use loose powder under the eyes during shadow application to catch any fall out and then wipe it away once your done!

    Hope this helps!

I'm going to disagree with a few of the answers so far. You certainly can wear makeup with acne prone skin. You just need to look at their ingredients or test them out to make sure they work for you.

I would suggest (since I have acne prone skin as well) you try Everyday Minerals. www.everydayminerals.com. Their products are natural, go on smoothly and are *much* cheaper than Bare Escentuals. Not to mention the BE sometimes makes people with sensitive breakout skin, itchy (not fun!).

Everyday Minerals even has a sample pack. You pick 4 foundation colors, a concealer, and a blush for free. Just pay for shipping and handling (I believe mine cost $4).

Physician's Formula is pretty good too though. I have used that in a pinch. They do make GREAT mascaras!

Mark Powder-matic Go Anywhere Loose Powder. Comes in a cute, mirrored click compact and perfect for oily skin. I use MAC loose powder to set my makeup, then i carry a pressed powder, but apply it with a powder brush. I love MAC, but their powders do contain clay so may be clogging for oily skin. I try to use less powder in the summer when i sweat more. I carry aveda spray toner for oily skin it comes in a small glass bottle that I keep in the fridge over night. Take it out and pop it in my purse. When my skin gets oily, I just lightly spray it. Any remaining oil, I blot away using blotting papers (Clean and clear makes a good one, so does MAC and Victoria Secret. Clean and Clear are the cheapest.)
first u have to wash ur face with hot soapy water to clean it before u put powder on ur face.
the reason your face is that oily is your not puting any moisterizer on

1.Wash(dont over wash or it will make it worce!! scrub with 2 fingers)

What are the diffirences between loose powder and compact powder ?

which one is better for weddings and special occasionsWhat are the diffirences between loose powder and compact powder ?
loose powder is just foundation powder that comes in a tub, and is generally a bit messier to use. compact powder is also called pressed powder. the product itself in a compact is the same as loose powder, but it has been pressed into a pan for convenience. compacts are generally better, in my opinion, for weddings and such; as you can take it with you for touch ups throughout the day without risking the powder spilling over your dress or in your handbag like a loose powder would.

What's the difference between loose and pressed powder?

I currently used foundation and pressed powder. What's the difference between loose and pressed though? Can you use foundation with loose, does loose look unnatural, what? What's the difference between loose and pressed powder?
Loose just shows up more and reduces shine even more than pressed powder. i believe it has better coverage too (in my opinion) . I use loose over my foundation when i get ready in the morning, then during the course of the day if my face gets shiny i just put pressed powder on because it's a hassle to carry the loose powder around, it will get everywhere and make a mess.. pressed powder comes in a handy little compact with a mirror as well. What's the difference between loose and pressed powder?
the biggest differences are portability and application.

pressed powders are easy to travel with. loose are better left at home.

pressed powders are usually applied with a sponge. this gives a slightly heavier coverage than loose powders applied with a brush or puff.

as long as you don't apply too much, they really both give about the same effect.
Nothing other than the form. Pressed powder comes in a compact and tuft to apply it with and you press it on after you have applied your liquid foundation or on your bare skin; depending upon your preference. Loose powder is applied with a brush or puff and then swept down over the face and lightly tapped on.

Pressed powder is more convenient to carry around with you for touch ups during the day.
i don't see a difference in the ay they look at all. pressed powder is cleaner and doesn't get all over the place.
pressed powder is basically a compact. the powder is compressed into a tin. a good example is covergirl

loose powder is powder in a plastic container that is not in any shape or form. a good example is bare escentuals

yes, you can use foundation with loose powder.

if you rub the loose powder really well into your skin, it does not look unnatural. i prefer loose powder because pressed powder can break easily!
The only thing I have to add is that some pressed powders will ';cake'; on your foundation. I only use pressed powder for touch ups when I'm out and about.
I use foundation and loose ,it looks smoother because you have more control on how much you use ,I also carry a compact of pressed powder in my purse for touch ups during the day.Barb w,
Pressed powder is more packed in, and sometimes easier or less messy to apply. Loose powder is more dusty and kinda messy.

Loose usually looks pretty natural, but it really depends what kind of loose powder you use.

  • When buying make up brushes what should i look for especially the big round loose powder brush? Brands maybe?

E.L.F. sells makeup brushes for only $1.00. They have almost every brush you would need. I have most of their brushes %26amp; i'm really happy with the quality of them. When buying make up brushes what should i look for especially the big round loose powder brush? Brands maybe?
For the brush sizes, the loose powder one have to be big, but not to much cause you don't want to put too much powder, blush brushes have to be not too small, but enough so you can brush it easily on your cheeks and move it around without getting all over them. If you put bronzer, still the same for the blush brush, small enough to be precise on the spot where you want to give it a nice glow. For the quality, animal hair made brushes are the best (if you prefer synthetic, MAC brushes are very good), and I for myself like to buy the Trish McEvoy ones on Ebay, its crazy! you can buy a big pack with lots of any size brushes, for the price of one! When buying make up brushes what should i look for especially the big round loose powder brush? Brands maybe?
You should look for brushes that don't shed a lot of hairs and that are really soft. If they're getting a lot of contact with your face you don't want them to irritate your skin. I suggest trying the Sonia Kashuk brushes from Target. They're incredibly soft and they get the job done. For a powder brush, you also don't want something that flops around a lot if you shake it back and forth. The bristles are too loose and they won't pick up much product. Good luck!
If you are not worried about pricing then go to Bare Essentuals. You can't go wrong but I am warning that they are expensive yet well worth it. They are probably the best out there though.
MAC Cosmetics 129 Powder/Blush Brush ($34) is the best! I use it to apply my powder and blush and it works sooo well!

Good pressed OR loose powder foundation?

I need something 20$ and under that won't make my skin oily and break out.

If possible could you suggest a drugstore brand?

Also, is a loose or pressed powder better?

All help is appreciated!Good pressed OR loose powder foundation?
Seriously, I know you must hear this alot from people but I bible that Bare Minerals is the best. I was always looking for the best product and for years, it seemed like nothing fit the bill. Bare Minerals is really the only solution that I have found. Everyone who bought it in my family (My mom, step sister, and nana) loved it. I have medium oily skin and I have a light complexion. It worked amazing! It minimized the oil and didnt make my face and neck two totally different colors. As long as you get the right color, you will LOVE it! Pressed powder is for a matte look but it comes off looking to cakey. It looks good only if you use it sparingly, not when you use it primarily. Good luck (:Good pressed OR loose powder foundation?
If you want to spend under 20$ and get a good deal I suggest Mayballine New York's Mineral Power Foundation. I use use the loose powder and the concealer, the concealer is a liquid but its really good. IT doesn't make my skin oily or break out, during the winter it helps keep my skin from drying out.

ANd the loose powder foundation costs about 9$ and the concealer costs about 6-8$ at walmart, OH the powder comes with a kubuki brush but i suggest getting a bigger one, you can get one at walmart for 5$. And remember to get your concealer a shade or two lighter than your foundation.
i prefer looser powder for like longer wear

mac makeup is actually verry good

i know you want the drugstore kind but since were talking about your face its better to get a better brand so your face will not come up with some kind of reaction

if you want something to wear everyday then chose the pressed powder its more convenient

also when you go to any mac store ask them if you could try it

and if you see that it work for you invest in it

i dont believe it is that costly
I'm really loving the L'Oreal True Match.

Be careful though, it does make your skin feel a little dry but if you put a sheer coating it's very good. I have sensitive skin by the way and it does not make me break out.

Also, it depends on what you like better. I have never used loose powder because I thought it was always easier just to take the compact with me.
I like loose powder better than pressed. You can control the amount that goes on your face a lot better with loose and it lasts ALOT longer. I use covergirl's loose mineral powder($5-6). I find that it works best for me. I've heard that loreal's bare natural loose minerals($12-13) are the best though.
I swear by Neutragena Mineral Sheers loose powder foundation. It has a built in brush and works as well as expensive brands. I've tried 'em all, and I keep goin' bnack. I've been using it for three years now. Try it, you'll see what I mean!
I use mabeline loose powder and it costs about 10 bucks and you can choose your skin type also revlon thats good and you can get if from your local walgreens or walmart

Does covergirl tru blend loose mineral powder work?

ive never worn makeup before, and i just bought this, its a little sparkly for my tastes, but i cant trust the lighting in my house so who knows. i got the translucent fair, im very light skinned with some mild acne beside my nose on both sides. will this help?Does covergirl tru blend loose mineral powder work?
It works okay, but bare minerals are MUCH better. I also use Maybelline mineral foundation when I'm broke.Does covergirl tru blend loose mineral powder work?
It is not good at all. It is cheap minerals that don't make your skin any better. You should try Bare Minerals, its pricey but much better than Covergirl Tru Blend.

MAC Studio Fix Powder or Bare Minerals loose powder?

I've been using Bare Minerals as a powder foundation, but I wanted a change. I've heard good things about MAC Studio Fix Powder, but because it's a solid powder is it cakey? And does the Studio Fix get as good of a coverage as Bare Minerals? Also, how long would one compact of MAC SF last you?

Thanks!MAC Studio Fix Powder or Bare Minerals loose powder?
mac studio fix. it lasts me a couple monthsMAC Studio Fix Powder or Bare Minerals loose powder?
Change is always good. I've used the MAC Studio Fix and I would say it's pretty good, it lasts a really long time which is nice. The only downside to it is that I find you can look somewhat cakey if you over do it. Another great powder to try is BeneFit's Get Even face powder. If you have any sort of redness or uneveness in your skin, this is boss.
MAC studio fix ALL THE WAY.
I haven't tried the Bare Minerals but I have been using the Mac Studio Fix for quite a while. The compact lasts several months. It's not heavy or cakey - unless you apply too much. Remember, less is always more. And if you don't feel like you have enough on you can always add more.

I switched to all Mac products with the exception of eyeliner pencil. I swear by Revlon ColorStay. The Mac is a little too soft and wears off.
Bare Minerals all the way! You don't want to look like you have to hide like a giant zit or something. Get bare minerals it looks like its your skin not like your covering something nasty.I use it everyday I perfer it over everything I've ever used!
Haven't used either of those brands. I have used the loreal bare minerals and I love it. It covers anything and feels like you don't even have makeup on. And it is very inexpensive.

  • Is there a loose powder w/out bismuth, talc, or mica??

I am acne prone, currently on retin a and a topical antibiotic and I STILL break out. I was currently using clinique foundation and powder and then discovered they both contain talc and bismuth- maybe why I can't get my skin under control. I would like to try mineral make up but every one I find has either bismuth, talc or mica included. Any suggestions? Thanks! Is there a loose powder w/out bismuth, talc, or mica??
I have the same issue as you do.

Bare Minerals does have bismuth and irritates my skin.

Physicians Formula works okay but does not last.

I started using Everyday Minerals. Just started but it seems to be working. Is there a loose powder w/out bismuth, talc, or mica??
I think Physician's Formula ....check out the website for sure.

or Bare Minerals you could go to jcpenney.com and click on sephora they have it too
LA minerals. Check out their webiste....its only online but u can get samples for $1 and ship em free. \Good luck
The Bare Minerals line has a foundation w/o any of your aforementioned ingredients. Their other products contain some mica; I've never seen bismuth listed, and they for sure don't contain any talc. Plus, they're great for your skin.

What's the difference in between concealer, foundation and loose/finishing powder?

Self explanatory. What's the difference in between concealer, foundation and loose/finishing powder?
Generally, concealer is used to hide blemishes including discolorations from acne, dark circles under the eyes or more challenging skin problems such as melasma (dark spots) or rosacea (red shiny patches). Concealer usually comes in skin colored pigments or purple/green colored pigments. Also concealer is sometimes a liquid to be applied with a brush or often in a lipstick form.

Foundation usually is a light, smooth skin-colored cream or liquid to be applied over your entire face (don't forget your neck, decolletage and ears) that in general, matches your skin's undertones and evens out skin coloration. Sometimes you can skip concealer and just apply a little foundation to those trouble spots only and move on. The experts will advise to get a foundation with SPF-30 to prevent premature aging. I agree in this. Luckily my foundation (Revlon Age-Defying with Botafirm) suits me to a T.

Finally, you would want to use powder to either set your foundation (so it doesn't smear) or else to keep your skin from showing oil. Generally I use a big powder brush to apply a little loose powder to set my foundation since I don't have oily skin. If you have oily skin you may want to try a sponge or puff applicator to apply a caked powder since it generally lasts longer.

In all three categories, color matching is critical importance. If you have time, try to get a professional makeup artist to match your skin and get a sample. If you want, you can try to match the color at the drugstore to a cheaper color. I did this since my skin is very hard to match. The Prescriptives sample matched to an inexpensive but wonderful Revlon. I'm hooked. What's the difference in between concealer, foundation and loose/finishing powder?
Concealer does as the name suggests - it conceals, or hides imperfections like dark circles or blemishes. Foundation is the all-over face product to even out skin tone and make it look smooth and ready for other cosmetics. It may be a liquid, a cream, a solid stick or even a powder (such as the mineral foundations). Finishing powder is usually sheer and used for two things, first after the foundation and concealer, it sets it, so you can put on powder blush, bronzing powder, and eye shadows; next, finishing powder makes the blush smooth and blended, and sets everything so it lasts all day or night. It also helps to minimize any oily shine. Finishing powder can be reapplied to freshen your makeup. Sometimes finishing powder has a shimmer, to be used as a special effect for a party or evening out.
concealer: covers blemishes that are concentrated in one area. like spots/acne.

foundation: all over coverage for discoloration, just to even out skin tone, etc.

finishing powder: brightens face, mattifies it, can be used for touchups when you don't want to overcake it, are mostly translucent.

i'll add one, just an fyi.

primer: used before all those i just listed to set makeup, so it applies evenly. also mattifies the skin.

they also have primers just for the eyes to prevent creasing and make it last longer, apply smoothly.

powder is betterPhysicians Formula Talc-Free Mineral Liquid Foundation or Loose Powder?
I tried their talc-free mineral powder and absolutely fell in love with it. The color was excellent and it looked very natural. I prefer using powders to cover blemishes because my skin tends to be oily and it did the job. I also noticed my skin stayed pretty clear for the most part. Also, the container lasted about three months using it every day. So it's definetly worth the price.
i use the loose powder if has really good coverage and looks natural. i use a little concealer under it also on red areas
I like their loose opwder better, since im like...uh, oh so white.

It blends better than the foundation.

But its all up to you.

If you prefer powder over liquid foundation then go for the powder.

What's the point of foundation and what's the point of pressed or loose powder? What do they do? (10 points)!?

I'm still new to make up. I just want to know what a foundation does specifically and what the point of pressed or loose powder is. If concealer already exists..then whats the function of foundation and/or powder?

    Please help!!

    THANKS SO MUCH!

%26lt;3 ElwingWhat's the point of foundation and what's the point of pressed or loose powder? What do they do? (10 points)!?
Foundation gives you a clear complexion.

It gives you a clear canvas to work on.

I use powder to set the foundation.

I'm this guys fiance. What's the point of foundation and what's the point of pressed or loose powder? What do they do? (10 points)!?
Concealer: Used for small areas such as under eye circles. Can be used for blemishes, although this can easily make the blemishes more noticeable.

Foundation: Comes in formulas such as liquid, loose powder, pressed powder, cream, mousse, spray, wet to dry, etc. This is used to even out the skin tone, help reduce redness. Generally used on the entire face, or can be used in specific areas such as cheeks and nose to cover redness.

Powders: These are designed to set foundation. There are pressed setting powders, which will give heavier coverage, and there are loose setting powders, which give finer results.
Both are just to even out your complexion ( get rid of small red bumps ect.). I like to use tinted moisturizer ( so its light and good for you) and then set it with transluscent loose powder. Its very light but gives you a healthy glowing look!!

    Concealer is for blemishes and only goes on where you have a blemish;

foundation is for your whole face.
yah wat she said. but powders can also absorb oil n prevents shine.
Foundation is used to make your skin look flawless. It helps blend in discoloration and freckles. Pressed powder is less messy. It's pressed but it gives the same result for most cases. Loose is mostly used at home, it's not recommended for travel since it'll get everywhere. Loose may also apply on easier.
Specifically...what foundation does paired with concealer(if needed) is to even out the completion to give it balance in coloring....loose powder is used to set the foundation.

Maybelline has powder and it called pure powder it has aloe in it.

What's the difference between a Compact Powder and Loose Powder?

Compact Powder is pressed into the compact and loose powder is obviosly just loose. If you like a light finsih loose powder is ideal as you can just brush it right over your make-up. Pressed powder is convenient to carry around and depends which brand, some are more pigments/coloured than the loose powders.
